Does anyone know of a reset device for IP Cameras and Video Servers? I will be installing an IP Camera up in a dome enclosure. I will not be able to access the camera once I install it so I need an easy way of reseting the camera if it locks up or fails to give a signal.

Has anyone ever heard of a reset device? Someone told me there are devices you can get that reset the IP Camera or Video Server if it locks up. I can't find these devices anywhere though. Has anyone ever heard of them before???

Is this the IP camera reset device you were talking about?

http://www.4xem.com/products/cameraacc/IPCAMRESET/index.html

Basically you plug this into the power of your IP camera or video server and into an IO port on the back. It then monitors your IP camera or video server and when it fails to give a signal it resets the IP camera or video server. I know a few people who are using this in enclosures so the camera is automatically reset when it crashes - it saves a lot of headache not having to climb up there to reboot the device Wink. It also comes with a software utility that will watch the IP camera or video server for you and notify you if it goes down. I'm not sure if it provides a way to reboot the IP camera or video server from the PC but you could look into it.

Product Description:
The 4XEM IP Network Camera Reset Device allows you to easily monitor your IP cameras for lock ups and loss of signal. When installing an IP network camera in an enclosure, it is hard to access the camera if the built-in processor locks up. The IPCAMRESET device monitors the camera 24/7 to verify the camera is running and has a network connection. If the camera stops responding, the IPCAMRESET device will automatically reboot the camera. Once the camera is restored to a running status, the IPCAMRESET device will return to monitoring status. If the IPCAMRESET device cannot reboot the camera, it will continue trying to reset the camera every hour.

The 4XEM IPCAMRESET IP Network Camera Reset Device is a recommended product for applications where your IP network camera is not easily accessible. The IPCAMRESET device will give you peace of mind knowing that your camera is running.

That is exactly what I am looking for.

Have you used one before? Do they work ok or should I find another option?

I have used them in a few installations and they work great. I haven't used the software that comes with them but I just use them for watching IP cameras and video servers. Whenever they go down they get reset.

I would consider them a good investment especially if the IP cameras or video servers are installed in a hard to reach place.

Provantage has a good price on them $110. http://www.provantage.com/4xem-ipcamreset~74XEM038.htm

A good product for 1 camera, but if you're doing more than 1 just use PoE so you can reboot. If you have to do a hard reset...you have other problems and shouldn't be using that camera. I use axis cameras and never need to worry about that.

This is a little late, but you can look at http://videogenix.com. They make the same device as mentioned above that is now 5 to 24 Vdc, 12 or 24 hour reset and they have a PoE IP version that will reset when it doesn't see IP traffic with software loaded or it can be used in a 12 or 24 hour mode also.
