I have 4 D-Link DCS-5300 cameras running with the D-Link software. I have the cameras recording on motion. For some reason one of the cameras is always recording. I think I narrowed the problem down to moving trees in the field of view. Could this set off the cameras motion detector?

Is there a better software out there that works with my cameras that is smart enough to only record actual people walking and not moving trees or bushes?

I have a DCS-5300 as well and I did get the same problems. I was reading the website of one of the main video analytics software developers and they mentioned that their software can tell when there is a tree or bush swaying and that their software will know not to record it. I can't remember which video analytics software offers that but I believe it was one of the software companies listed on this site.

Try contacting them to see if their software will do what your looking for.

All NVR and/or dvr's have a problem with outdoor "normal" motion dec tion as it just isn't that tight of an algorithm. There are sensitivity settings that I am sure you have tried, but since the wind changes in intensity it is very hard to do this without a learning type of motion, where as the system learns from consitant motion in an area and doesnt alarm until there is a different than normal motion.

you wont find this type of motion detection in any freeware that comes with the camera.

Thanks and I hope it helps you.

I think the video analytics software you were thinking of is AIMETIS. They mention that their software can tell the difference. I have tested the software and it does not record swaying trees.

Like Chad said, you won't find a free video analytics software to do this and I don't believe AIMETIS' video analytics software supports D-Link cameras just yet. You can try contacting them.
